Milestones:

March, 1960

:

Government of India approved the proposal of Delhi Conference of UNICEF to select the then Institute of Agriculture, Anand as the centre to start Indian Dairy Diploma (IDD) & B.Sc. (Dairying) course.

July, 1961

:

Dairy Science College started as a grant-in-aid institution with   financial assistance from the Government of Gujarat.

June, 1972

:

College acquired the status of Faculty of Dairy Science with formation of Gujarat Agricultural University.

June, 1974

:

IDD discontinued; Intake capacity of B.Sc (DT) increased to 40.

June, 1977

:

PG programme started in four major disciplines (DE,DT, DC & DM).

May,1990

:

Nomenclature of B.Tech (DT) introduced after incorporating modification and upgradation of course curriculum suggested by ICAR-NDDB Joint Panel (1989).

Aug, 1994

:

Inauguration of Vidya Dairy for imparting one year on-hand training of B.Tech (DT) Students.

July, 1995

:

Revised B. Tech (DT) Programme.

June 2004

:

Became a part of AAU.

July 2005

:

Started PG Program in Food Biotechnology &    Post Graduate Diploma in Dairy & Food Quality Assurance.

Mar, 2010

:

Suvidhya Classroom complex made for UG students.

July, 2013

:

Awarded Best Dairy Science College of the Country by the Times Research Group.

August, 2014

:

Awarded Best Dairy Science College of the Country by Earth Research Group.

SMC College of Dairy Science, Anand, one of the foremost institutions for dairy technology education in the country, was established in the year 1961 as a part of the then Institute of Agriculture, Anand. With the establishment of the Gujarat Agricultural University in 1972, the college became its constituent part and was conferred status of a Faculty - "The Faculty of Dairy Science". After elevation of the college as a Faculty in 1972 scopes of its activities have considerably expanded with the following mandate:

  • Organize and conduct educational programmes both at undergraduate and post-graduate levels in various branches of Dairy Science and Technology in order to meet the manpower needs of technologists for managing dairy plants and subject matter specialists for research and teaching needs of the country
  • Organize short term specialized training programmes /refresher courses, etc. (both formal and informal) for dairy plant personnel, university teachers, research workers, small entrepreneurs, farmers and others in field of Dairy Processing.
  • Carry out research in Dairy Technology, Dairy Microbiology, Dairy Chemistry and Dairy Engineering including design and development of dairy equipment, process and new product developement.
  • College has head quarter of Swedish South Asian Network on Fermented Foods. It also has head office of Indian Dairy Association, Gujarat State Chapter.
  • Through its strong alumni association, organize biannual Alumni Convention and National Dairy Product Judging Contest & National Dairy and Food Quiz every year.

Rendering service to dairy industry through its Consultancy Cell, comprising of a team of multi-disciplinary specialists So far the college has trained 192 Indian Dairy Diploma in Dairy Technology and 741 B.Sc.(Dairy Techno.) and 1681 B.Tech.(D.T.) graduates. The college has also trained 279 M.Sc. / M.Tech., 60 Ph.D. and 16 PG Diploma students till date. All these students are serving in almost all the states of the country and also abroad.
