Faculty of Dairy science offers M. Sc. and Ph.D. in degrees in Dairy Technology, Dairy Engineering, Dairy Microbiology and Dairy Chemistry disciplines.

A candidate for admission to masters degree program should posses a bachelor degree with and OGPA of not less than 6.0 ( 10.00 Basis ) or its equivalent in aggregate as well as in the field of studies in which admission is sought.

For admission to M. Sc. (Dairying), a bachelor degree in Dairy Technology shall be the requirement. The eligibility for M.Sc. degree is as under. The candidates coming from Non-dairy disciplines shall have to make up professional deficiencies by taking pre-requisite courses as prescribed by the advisory committee.

The applicant for admission to the Ph.D. Degree program should posses at least second-class master degree in the concerned discipline. A written test will be given to the candidates for the admission to the PG Program. If necessary personal interview will also be taken. The admission will be decided upon consideration of the score at the Bachelors' or Masters' degree examination as the case may be and the score of the written test, interview. intake capacity and facilities available.

A student enrolled for Master's degree program has:

• To earn a minimum of 35 credit hours (major 15 Credits minimum), minor 9 credits (minimum), a seminar 1 credit (minimum) plus credits of allied and/or special problems other than pre-requisite and/or supporting course, adjudged necessary by the Advisor Committee
• To clear the qualifying examination
• To submit an acceptable thesis in the prescribed format, based on an approved research project conducted satisfactorily as adjudged by the examiner for the award of degree
• To pass English tests I and II and scientific & technical writing courses or its equivalent as prescribed by the University, from time to time
• To complete a minimum residential requirement of 4 (four) semester, for general students (including employee of Government) and 6 semester for the students coming from Basic Science or Technology or a Bachelor's Degree in a allied field of Agriculture/Veterinary Science/Dairy Science/Home Science/Agricultural Engineering and for inservice students

A student enrolled for Doctorate degree program has:

• Having earned a minimum of 36 course credit hours (major 15 Credits (minimum) minor 9 Credits (minimum), Seminar 2 Credit (minimum) (One in Major and One in Minor field) Plus Credits of allied and/or special problems. Thus the student has to earn total of minimum 36 Credits other than already earned in Master's degree and pre requisite and/or supporting Course adjudged necessary by the Advisory Committee
• Having cleared the Qualifying Examination
• Having submitted an acceptable thesis in the prescribed format, based on original research conducted satisfactorily as adjudged by the Examiners for the award of degree
• To pass English tests I and II and scientific & technical writing courses or its equivalent as prescribed by the University, from time to time
• Having completed a minimum residential requirement of 6 (six) semester, for general student (including employee of Government) and 8 semester for the students coming from Basic Science or Technology or a Bachelor's Degree in a allied field of Agriculture/Veterinary Science/Dairy Science/Home Science/Agricultural Engineering and for inservice students

Cases of candidates requiring more than 10 semesters shall be reviewed by the Dean of Post-graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Advisory Committee. The cases shall be reviewed after four semester by the major professor who will report to the Principal about taking courses during each semester. If a student has not taken any course during any 4 consecutive semesters his registration will stand cancelled. Principal will report the same to the Dean, Post-graduate studies and Registrar.

The Semester in a year will be divided into two semester Suitable adjustments will be made to accommodate Diwali and other holidays as notified by the university.
Credit: A course credit means a period of lecture of one hour in theory or two hours of laboratory or field practical per week, A student shall attend a series of lectures, do laboratory/field work and submit assignments and report as required by teacher concerned while attending the course for which he/she is registered.

• Every student shall have a Major Advisor from his major field of study. He shall be the Chairman of the Advisory Committee of four members from the major, minor and allied fields of study. The appointment of members shall be made by the major advisor in consultation with the Head of the Department/In-charge, post-graduate teacher in the Subject on the campus. The committee shall draw out (within the first fortnight of the starting of the first semester) the programme of study keeping in view the student's academic background and the Major Advisor shall send a report to this effect to the Dean of Post-graduate studies through the Principal of the college with a copy to the Register
• The Research problem of the student as far as possible be complementary to be Sectional/Departmental/University research programme and shall be decided by the major Advisor in consultation with the Advisory committee of the student. The outline of the research problem shall be communicated to the Dean of Post-graduate studies before the end of third semester
• A student shall not normally be allowed to take more than 15 Credit hours of courses in a semester. A part time student or a recipient of an assistantship or inservice students shall not normally be allowed to take more than 9 credit hours of courses in a semester

The candidate will be eligible to take the qualifying examination, on completion of major portion of course work (atleast 75% of that determined for the student). The qualifying examination for Master's degree shall consist of an oral test conducted by the Advisory Committee after obtaining permission there to from the concerned Principal of the College. However, one more member from any other campus of the University will be nominated, in addition to the Advisor Committee by the Dean of Post-graduate Studies for the purpose of qualifying examination for Ph.D. degree. The Major Advisor who is the Chairman of the Advisory Committee will communicate the result of the examination to the Dean of Post-graduate Studies with a copy each to the Registrar and Principal of the College. The candidate shall be declared successful only if the decision of the Advisor Committee (with additional member in case of Ph.D.) is unanimous.

A candidate failing to pass the qualifying examination will be eligible to reappear at the said examination only for a maximum of two additional trials spaced at intervals of not less than 3 month each. The candidate shall be eligible to submit the thesis after passing of the qualifying examination.

Masters degree
The Thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirement for Master's degree shall be evaluated by one external referee from outside the university who shall be appointed by the Dean of Post-graduate Studies from a panel of three persons suggested by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee. The external referee shall examine the thesis and send his report to the Dean of Post-graduate Studies with a copy to the Registrar under intimation to the Major Advisor, normally within 4 weeks from the date of receipt of the thesis. A committee consisting of the Major Advisor, Minor Advisor and a teacher from the Major field nominated by the Dean of Post-graduate Studies, shall examine the candidate orally on the thesis on receipt from the external referee keeping in view the report of the external referee. The Major advisor shall present the final report on viva-voce on thesis to the Dean of Post-graduate Studies with a copy to the Registrar through the Principal of the college. However, the Dean of Post-graduate Studies, if convinced of the need for inviting the ext ernal referee for viva-voce Examination may invite External for Viva voce in place of one teacher to be nominated by him. In case, the report of the external referee is not favourable for acceptance of the thesis for the award of the degree the Dean of Post-graduate Studies may obtain opinion of the other external referee from the same panel and his opinion will be considered as final.

Doctorate degree
The thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the Ph.D. degree shall be examined by the Major Advisor and two external referee appointed by the Dean of Post-graduate Studies from a panel of five experts suggested by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee. The referee shall evaluate the thesis and shall present their reports to the Dean of Post-graduate Studies with a copy to the Registrar under intimation to the Major Advisor normally within 6 weeks from the date of receipt of the thesis, if any one of the external referee does not recommend the acceptance of the thesis, the Dean of Post-graduate Studies shall appoint a third external referee from the same panel. If the third referee does not recommend the thesis for acceptance, the candidate shall be declared to have failed and no oral examination shall be conducted. If both the external referee recommend the acceptance of thesis for the award of the degree, the final oral examination shall be conducted by the major and minor advisors, one of the appointed external referees as invited by the Dean of Post-graduate Studies and one teacher from the major field as nominated by the Dean of Post-graduate Studies. The candidate is expected to defend the thesis at the viva-voce.

The degree shall be awarded on unanimous recommendation of the examiners on acceptance of the thesis itself and on the performance of the student at the viva-voce.
